Excellent weather and conditions welcomed the GT Cup Europe contenders at Spa-Francorchamps for Round 2 of the season, which opened with the two free practice sessions.
On a high-speed track such as this, Simone Patrinicola and Luca Demarchi imposed the Ferrari 296 Challenge of Mertel Motorsport, posting a best lap time of 2.20.308 in session 2 that beat the the best of the Porsches, the Burgers HWM car of Laura van den Hengel and Paul Meijer by 0s681. The Dutch pair, which are racing very close to home, were fastest in the morning session (2.22.308) with basically every car improving their performance in the warmer afternoon session.
Returning to the series, Alex Reimann and EST1 Racing closed the day in an excellent third position (+0s773), with the Estonian package being second-f&stest in the morning.
Fourth were Ian Rodriguez-Luca Franca (FAEMS Porsche, +0s999) ahead of Lodovico Longoni-Pietro Armanni (ZRS Porsche, +1s274). Those are the two pairs having won the first two races in Portugal and leading the standings, in reversed order.
Local heores Nico Saelens and Stienes Longin led the Q1 Trackracing delegation to P6 (+1s669), with Saelens topping the Bronze session (2.23.361).
First Am car of the day was the LMR Porsche of reigning champions Dieter Svepes-Leandro Martins, in seventh overall (+1s932).
The McLaren Artura Trophy EVO by SMC made his debut with Klaus Halsig and Tommy Pintos, devoting the day to setting up and finishing in P15.
27 cars are expected to go into race day tomorrow. Unfortunately, the second EST1 Racing Porsche was severely damaged when Jordi Ripoll Jr. crashed in session 1, while Volcano Motorsport, for happy personal reasons surrounding Evgenii Leonov, who is welcoming a child in these very days.
